Black Lives Matter is a social movement that seeks to stop police brutality and violence against African-Americans. The death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis in May 2020 sparked a new wave of public indignation, and many athletes rallied with the BLM movement and fought for social change in the aftermath. The National survey indicated that Americans' positive views of sports have declined from 45 percent in August 2019 to 30 percent last month.The percentage of individuals who held a bad opinion increased from 25% last year to 40% in August 2020.

That's a 30 percent change, from a plus 20% favorable opinion to a minus 10% negative rating. The shocking decline happened at a time when pandemic-related sports like baseball have reduced their seasons.
